Discover Australia's Simpson Desert
Our 4WD rentals are the perfect vehicle to explore the rugged terrain and stunning vistas of the Simpson Desert.
Simpson Desert French Line
The French Line (or shot line as it's called) is the shortest and most direct route across the Simpson. The route crosses the dunes at right angles and there's about 1200 of them in all.
Simpson Desert Rig Road
The Rig Road crosses the southern part of the Simpson Desert and was once capped by clay to make access easier for heavy drilling and earth moving equipment that was transported along this road between oil wells during the early 1960's.
Simpson Desert WAA Line
The WAA line is an east-west seismic line similar to the French Line. It is un-clayed and has relatively few people travelling on it. The dunes are less prominent than on the French Line but often contain blow outs (large holes in the sand hills caused by sand being blown out by winds).

My Partner and I wanted to do something unique during our stay on the Gold Coast and came across Overlander Adventures. Can’t recommend these guys enough, they talked us through what would best be suitable for our family and where we were headed. The pick up of our Jeep Wrangler with Paul was hassle free they even arrived earlier for us to pick up which was a great help. We were guided through the whole car nothing was left unexplained. The car didn’t miss a beat and exceeded our expectations!!!

Highly recommending Overlander Adventure. We hired a 4 wheel drive for our holiday on Fraser Island and we absolutely loved it. Staff is super friendly and helpful. All the cars are brand new and fully equipped for the best camping experience. Prices are competitive. Can’t wait to book again with them for our next adventure 😍

Our holiday on the beach and at the woodland creek was fantastic in our Overlander vehicle. The rooftop tent was very comfortable and the vehicle had all the comforts and amenities you needed incl fridge, freezer, handheld shower and all bedding utensils and cooking gear. The team in the office were great to deal with, even coming out in the bush to find us to replace a faulty fridge on new yrs eve! Highly recommend!!

What happens if there is a fault with the Vehicle? We operate late-model, low kilometer vehicles and maintain them to a higher standard than that recommended by the manufacturer. However sometimes faults can develop, even in modern, well maintained vehicles. Particularly when operating in off-road or rough conditions. If you need roadside assistance, please contact RACQ on 1800 648 058 and quote the vehicle registration number. Issues such as flat batteries, flat tires or low fuel will be rectified by RACQ and there will be no need to notify us. If RACQ cannot rectify the problem, they will contact us and we will work with them and you to get the vehicle to a repairer to have the fault diagnosed and repaired. If the vehicle cannot be repaired in a timely manner, we will attempt to provide you with a substitute vehicle, subject to availability and your location. Some things to keep in mind, particularly if you are operating in remote areas. The more remote you operate the vehicle, the less resources are available. Getting assistance to you, rectifying faults or obtaining parts in remote parts of Australia will likely take significant time and in some cases may take days. Due to the vast distances in Australia, it may also not always be viable or possible to swap you into a substitute vehicle if the vehicle you are using develops a fault. Whilst we will always consider this, we cannot guarantee this option. Roadside assistance is not available everywhere. If you take our vehicle to an area where our Roadside Assist is not available, you will be required to pay for the cost of transporting the vehicle to the nearest RACQ depot or repairer (regardless of fault). Fraser, Moreton and Stradbroke Islands as well as many remote locations are not covered by Roadside Assistance. Whilst we understand that a fault may lead to some delay and inconvenience, Overlander does not pay compensation for missed flights, inconvenience or other loss suffered. We strongly encourage all hirers to take out travel insurance to cover this instance.
-
What happens if there is a Fault with the Camping equipment? We preform a comprehensive quality control check on our vehicles and equipment prior to every rental. However sometimes unexpected faults can develop, particularly when the vehicle is operating in off-road or rough conditions. If a fault develops in the camping equipment and it will not cause too much inconvenience, will likely just take a note and have it rectified when you return. If a fault develops that will cause you inconvenience, we will have to work together to find a solution. For example we may: (depending on your level of technical skill) work with you on the phone to see if you can undertake repairs yourself; ask you to purchase a similar, replacement item and then reimburse you for the cost; or find a local repairer and ask you to take the vehicle to them. We understand that this may delay your journey however these steps will be necessary in order to rectify the fault. Please contact us immediately if you have any problems with your vehicle or accessories.
-
Can I Tow a trailer or caravan? No. Unfortunately our vehicles are not equipped to tow.
-
Where is the best place to camp?Australia has many free and paid camping options, from remote far-away camp sites to boutique caravan and camping parks such as El-Questro Station in W.A. Camping in National Parks is popular. You will need to book and often a Vehicle permit is also required. Here is a list of State and Territory National Park websites: Queensland Parks - Click HERE Northern Territory Parks - Click HERE Western Australia Parks - Click HERE We highly recommend the AU WikiCamp app. This app lists hundreds free and paid camp grounds and contains up-to-date reviews from campers who have recently camped at each of the sites.
-
When is the best time to visit?Australia is beautiful all year round however the most popular time in the north is during the dry season between May and September. South East Queensland (Brisbane & Gold Coast) and South West Australia (Perth) and beautiful during summer, December to March. Why not ask our experienced team to help you plan your Australian 4WD adventure?
-
What about the wildlife? We know that Australian wildlife has a particular reputation, however most visitors quickly learn there is nothing really to worry about. Encounters with snakes, spiders, sharks and all of the other notorious creatures shown on the internet are actually extremely rare. This being so, it is important to always follow safety directions and signage wherever posted, particularly with regard to crocodiles in the top end.
-
How safe are your vehicles for remote outback travel? Our vehicles are set-up for remote, long distance travel. They are fitted with premium quality accessories and equipment from some of Australia's leading 4WD brands and are maintained beyond the manufacturers specifications. If you are travelling to very remote areas, we recommend our Hilux Outback as it is specifically set-up for safe and comfortable remote travel and has additional safety features such as dual spare wheels, emergency satellite beacon and more. Contact us if you would like assistance planning an outback adventure and/or need a local contact on the ground who can help you with local knowledge.

Important information about Fraser IslandUnfortunately QLD law prohibits rental vehicles on Fraser Island carrying anything on the roof, including a roof top tent. Click HERE to read the legislation. This law may affect your plans, depending on the vehicle you have booked: Toyota Landcruiser and Hilux Trayon are not affected by this law and are permitted to travel to Fraser Island without modification (you will need to store the roof mounted 2nd pare wheel on Hilux Trayon in the rear camper whilst on Fraser). Hilux Adventure and Jeep Gladiator are permitted to travel to Fraser Island however we must remove the roof top tents and awning and will supply you with quality ground tents as an alternative. Note this is not an option for one-way rentals. Please contact us if you book a one-way rental in a Gladiator or Adventure and also plan to visit Fraser Island. Hilux Outback is not set-up to travel to Fraser Island. If you are worried about animals, our experience is that many, many visitors to Fraser sleep on the ground in swags and tents and never have a problem. Also, there are a number of camp grounds on Fraser that have Dingo proof fences erected. Please give us a call, email or message if you would like more info or to discuss.
