There has understandably been some media coverage around global fuel supply due to events in the Middle East. While Australia relies on imported fuel, the situation on the ground remains stable.

Recent updates from the Australian Government indicate that:

  • Australia currently has around 30 days of diesel fuel supply available, which is unchanged since the initial disruption

  • The Government has secured additional diesel shipments and diversified supply sources

  • There is no expectation of fuel rationing or shortages, and contingency plans are in place

In practical terms, this means:

  • Fuel (particularly diesel) continues to be widely available across Australia

  • We are not seeing any issues reported by travelers, including those visiting remote areas

  • We expect normal availability throughout the upcoming dry season

We are actively monitoring:

  • Government updates

  • Fuel reporting services

  • Traveler communities (Cape York, Gibb River Road, Simpson Desert, etc.)

Across all of these sources, there is no indication that fuel availability will become limited in key touring regions

Your Overlander 4WD Set-up

Every Overlander 4WD is built specifically for remote Australian travel:

Long-range diesel tanks

  • Hilux: 140L

  • Landcruiser: 130–180L

Approx. 1,000km driving range (highway conditions)

This gives you a significant buffer and flexibility between fuel stops.

Simple Tips for Peace of Mind

  • Top up whenever fuel is available (especially in remote areas)

  • Reset your trip meter at each fill to track usage

  • Carry a rough plan of your next fuel stop

Final Word

Since the current situation began, we have not had a single report from our customers where fuel availability has affected their trip, anywhere in Australia.

We’ll continue to monitor things closely, but based on all available information, you can travel with confidence and focus on enjoying your trip.

If you have any questions at all as your trip approaches, feel free to Contact Us.

Safe travels and we look forward to getting you on the road.
